Sounds for Synth: Soundsets for your synth project.

Sounds for Synth is synth preset project initiative by Luftrum. Luftrum needs no introduction in synthesis world. He is known for his amazing presets / soundsets for Alchemy, Iris, Animoog, Diva, etc. He is also a field recordist and electronic experimentalist. The best thing that I like about Sounds for synth is the charity work that they do. A very rare quality to find in a company in today’s busy world. They donate 2% of their sales every year to charities. Save the children is one of those. If you are a musician looking for Synth presets and patches please visit Sounds for Synths, they already have so many soundsets by some excellent sound designers available on their website.

My OSC-32: Zebralette contest entry, Sep 2011.

It’s a long time since I updated my blog hence this track never appeared here. I submitted this tune for September 2011 One-Synth-Challenge contest. The challenge was to use awesome Zebralette VST instrument for all the sounds. The contest celebrated the move of Zebralette plugin from the commercial Zebra package to a free plugin. The contest saw the record entries of 41 tunes. Sadly, my tune ended up at #17 scoring only 10 points :-(. Never mind, may be next time. Anyway, please lend your ear to the track below and let me know your valuable comments and suggestions.

Stereo Chorus skins; now available on BlueCatAudio website

Good news. Stereo Chorus skins are now available on Blue Cat Audio wedsite. Please follow the link to download:

BlueCatAudio stereo chorus skins.

This is my first attempt at creating skin for a VST plugin. I created two Reaper themes earlier and have a pretty good graphic design experience under my belt but never created any skins for VST plugin. You must be wondering why Stereo Chorus? Well, first of all, Blue Cat has a nice framework for their plugin skins. It uses XML files for layout and they’ve a very nice skinning manual and a few tutorials on their website. Secondly, it’s a small plugin so was an obvious choice to start with. I don’t know when it’s going to be available on their website but for the moment, you can download these here:

Black Beauty
Metal Beauty

Copy the downloaded folders to your skins folder within Blue Cat’s Stereo Chorus plugin folder. Select the XML skin file through the menu. You can access the default menu by right clicking on the GUI while using these skins. That’s all.

If you’ve not used Stereo Chorus plugin before, then I would suggest you visit the Blue Cat Audio website for more info and download links. They have other free plugins available as well.

Zebralette patches

I present you two of my own Zebralette patches. Yup, only two so far. Well, there is a story behind it. There was a Zebralette patch contest going on in KVR in Jan 2011, I saw the thread just one day before the submission date. Though to “learn synth programming” was always on my to-do list, it was never on top priority. The requirement of the contest was to submit only two patches. So, I thought why not give it a try. So I created two patches for Zebralette and submitted just couple of hours before it was closed. I was not expecting anything major out of it but I was surprised (rather shocked) to see one of my patch (“heaven”) securing second position in the contest. On one hand, I was disappointed that I didn’t win but on the other hand I was very happy that I learned quite a bit on patch programming for Zebralette. So that’s it. Follow this link if you want to browse the thread on KVR audio for the whole story.Zebralette patch contest thread
Voting thread

By the way, if you visit the voting thread you can download all the patches submitted by contestants in one zip file. A total of around 30-odd patches for free.

Anyway, that’s the story behind these two patches. More patches to follow soon.
